On Sunday, a team of Navy SEALS repelled into a heavily-fortified mansion in Abbotabad, Pakistan, and took out the most wanted man on earth in a daring night raid that would seem to have nothing to do with transportation policy. Or does it?

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge and wearer of Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, went right back to her high street comfort zone as soon as the big day was over.

She was photographed on Saturday wearing a blue pleated Zara dress that retails for $89.90. And forget silk and hand-stitched lace–this dress is 100% polyester. The simple frock is currently on Zara’s website, so it must have been a recent purchase–perhaps one made on Kate’s recent high street shopping spree. Given the newly minted royal’s penchant for shopping her closet, it’s nice to see her in something new. It’s the first time Kate has worn Zara (that we can recall), though it totally fits with the sort of contemporary high street labels she likes to wear. But now that she’s a Duchess, we figure Kate can afford to mix some high in with the low.

Jamie Dimon wanted to make the announcement Oprah-style (You get a title change! And you get a title change! And you get a title change!) but there was concern that some employees would pass out from the excitement.

If you already know what I’m talking about, I’m sorry — I don’t have very much to add. The deposition is so damn short, the transcript doesn’t contain case-identifying information, and the pdf has been stripped of its metadata. Really, I only know what you know: a hilarious deposition took place earlier this month.

For those who are in the loop, there’s been this deposition making the rounds on various lawyer listserves. From what we can tell, it’s a real deposition in what appears to be a divorce or some other type of family-law proceeding. The deponent is named Kevin Phillip Gartner; of all the Kevin Gartners in Google, we can’t be sure of which one. The lawyer taking the deposition appears to be Denise Watson, a Jacksonville area lawyer. When I tried to contact her, I was told she is “unavailable, this week.” The lawyer valiantly trying to represent Kevin Gartner and defend the deposition is known only as “Mr. Dorsey.”

That’s all I got: a name, a no-comment, and the mysterious Mr. Dorsey. Normally, that wouldn’t be enough for a full post. But you’re going to want to see the depo transcript for yourself….

Florida might have rejected close to $2 billion for a high-speed rail project. But the Wall Street Journal is reporting that $1.3 billion of it could be allocated to Amtrak, which would mark the first time the national rail carrier has received federal money specifically for high-speed rail development. Unsurprisingly, the money would likely go towards increasing the speed of trains on the heavily-trafficked passenger corridor between Washington, DC and Boston. Improving Amtrak’s most popular line makes a lot of sense: last year, 10 million passengers traveled on the Northeast Corridor out of a total ridership of just under 30 million; the second and third-most popular rail corridors, both in California, carried 2.6 and 1.5 million passengers, respectively.

Paul Clement (left) and John Boehner (right)

The leading law firm of King & Spalding, which came under fire from LGBT rights groups after its defense of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) became public last week, has moved to withdraw from the litigation. The firm cited problems with the vetting process applied to the engagement.

And Paul Clement, the former U.S. Solicitor General and King & Spalding partner who was going to spearhead the DOMA defense, is now a former K&S partner. He resigned from K&S this morning, in response to the firm’s withdrawal decision. Clement will continue his representation of the House of Representatives in DOMA litigation from his new home, Bancroft PLLC, the high-powered D.C. boutique founded by a fellow alum of the Bush Department of Justice, Georgetown law professor Viet Dinh.

UPDATE (12:20 PM): We reached out for comment to Professor Dinh, who said: “Paul wins the biggest cases and Bancroft solves the most complex problems. This is a no brainer. We will continue to do what Paul and I love doing most, which is to serve the best interests of our clients.”

Let’s take a look at King & Spalding’s stated justification for dropping the DOMA representation, and at Paul Clement’s resignation letter….

The New York International Auto Show is running at the Jacob Javits Convention Center through May 1st and if you’re a fan of sustainable transportation there’s a whole lot to get excited about. The Nissan Leaf won the 2011 World Car of the Year award, and many automakers are touting the improved fuel efficiency among their conventional car models.

But it wasn’t all about expanding opportunities for electric vehicles and grateful polar bears. Mazda went to great lengths to make it clear that their new line of fuel efficient cars shouldn’t be confused with hybrids and electrics in any way, shape, or form.

While Kate Middleton was picking up summer dresses and silk blouses on her high street shopping spree the other day, she also picked up some lingerie. But not the Agent Provocateur super sexy wedding night kind. She bought some plain Calvin Klein bras–one in black and one in boring. I mean nude. She also got a lacy thong on sale for just £3.90 and the Sun had the good taste to put a model in said thong “to give Prince William a sneak preview.”

Wasn’t that thoughtful of them? Click through to see this hilarious piece of “service journalism.” And the kinds of Calvin Klein bras Kate bought. They were a relative splurge for thifty Kate at £30 each.

Next up, we’ll be breathlessly reporting on Kate Middleton shopping for…socks! Not really, but sadly, maybe?
